DBE spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said in a media statement: “the usual practice of publishing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on public platforms (media platforms) will not occur for 2021”. Mhlanga said this was in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (Act No. 4 of 2013) (the POPIA) which came into effect on I July 2021. On Wednesday, January 19, the Johannesburg High Court, sitting as an Equality Court, will hear the matter on whether private religious schools can require pupils and parents to abide by their agreements to conform and hold to the school’s religious policies and rules. This comes after a Gauteng private Christian school refused to allow an isiZulu-speaking pupil to attend school while wearing a traditional ceremonial goat-skin bracelet called an isiphandla.
