Down town NewYork in the 1970s provided the starting point for Max Mara’s pre-fall 2015 collection. From Debbie Harry to the American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, it was the artists, designers and musicians of the time who inspired the label’s creative director Ian Griffiths. ‘The space surrounding the new Whitney Museum of American Art was the setting for many important artistic moments,’ he says. ‘We wanted the collection to interpret that cool, urban grit through the luxurious fabrics for which Max Mara is renowned.’ Wide-leg trousers and long wool belted coats were an ode to this scene; chain-mail blouses were a homage to the nightclubs of the disco era.
