THE BIG FIVE CATEGORY Best Kitchen Design WINNER Paiano Design with Jenna Karrer Design (NSW) THE VISION This charismatic kitchen, nestled in the leafy suburb of Alfords Point, NSW, boasts creativity and flair. With an open-plan and eastern aspect, this space basks in dappled light that comes through the soaring gumtrees around it. The designers were inspired by this in their selections of colours and finishes. A fusion of retro and contemporary aesthetics, the focal point is a one-of-a-kind curved perforated metal island. A subtle eucalyptus (Grass Sands — Dulux) polyurethane backdrop, paired with steel-framed reeded glass, encourages light to dance around the undulating surfaces. The ACFA National Industry Awards recognise and promote the exceptional work and craftmanship in the cabinet and furniture industry. Hosted by the Australian Cabinet and Furniture Association (ACFA), the awards provided the chance to recognise the outstanding projects completed over the last two years. For consumers, industry awards provide the opportunity to discover a range of projects to be inspired by. During its Gala Dinner in February, the industry was able to gather, catch up and celebrate. In opening the evening’s proceedings, the Master of Ceremonies, Tim Woods, remarked, “These 2021 ACFA Industry Awards are the celebrations we get to have for some of the great successes of the last two years.” The awards are judged by three prominent industry figures anonymously. A stunning line-up of kitchens vied for state and national titles in the KBDi Designer Awards in 2021, with the category proudly sponsored by Multitap by InSinkErator. In this feature, we’re introducing the member who took out the coveted title of KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year and showcasing her spectacular project. Maddalena Fiorasi studied architecture in Venice before working in Europe for several years. When she moved to Australia, Maddalena pursued her passion for residential design, studying at Sydney’s Enmore Design Centre. Her dedication to her studies was acknowledged with a student award in 2018 and earned her a complimentary membership (and serendipitous introduction) to the Kitchen & Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia. Both KBDi and our education partners TAFE NSW were delighted to see this connection come full circle.…
