The guys at Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations have been at it again, bringing enhanced luxury and performance to the Velar. The most obvious addition is the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, which will whisk you from standing to 60mph in a mere 4.3 seconds and propel you to a top speed of 170mph. But it isn’t just a case of shoving a big engine in to create a vehicle capable of those times – the running gear has been tickled by the SV guys, and includes a sports-tuned active locking rear diff, uniquely calibrated eight-speed Quickshift transmission, uprated air suspension and SV high-performance two-piece ventilated disc brakes – 395mm (front) and 396mm (rear) – which gain additional cooling through the new front bumper. In recent years, several upmarket Land Rovers and Jaguars have been stolen by thieves who overcome the vehicles’ keyless entry systems. They use a purpose-made relay box close to the targeted vehicle and another near the owner’s key that tricks the car into opening and starting Now, though, Jaguar Land Rover has upgraded the system so that this means of attack can no longer work.
