Hello, and a big, big welcome to the latest issue of Minecraft World! Since we were with you last, this year’s Minecraft Live has taken place, and there were LOADS of new announcements. We’ve been delving into the min our huge feature looking at just what went on, and rounding up everything that was announced. There’s so much to look forward to – and we’ve not even had part two of the Caves & Cliffs update yet! MINECRAFT: THE WILD UPDATE Minecraft Live offered the now-customary look at the future of the core game, announcing – officially – version 1.19, The Wild Update. We knew an update was coming soon after certain features were delayed from the original release of Caves & Cliffs, and the good news is that the second half – now officially numbered 1.18 – is still going to come out this year. However, The Wild Update adds even more on top of that, while also absorbing a couple of new features we were expecting to see in Cave & Cliffs Part 2. STANDARD MOBS BLAZES only spawn in Nether fortresses, and are the best reason to go hunting in the Nether – Blaze Rods are the only source of Blaze Powder in the game! They are the only mobs that take damage from snowballs, and when killed they drop 0-1 Blaze Rods. Blazes have 20 health and drop a lot of experience: 10 points! ENDERMEN are the only mob that appear in the Nether, The Overworld, and the End. In the Nether, they are most common in warped forests but can also spawn in soul sand valleys and Nether wastes. They drop 5 points of experience and have 40 health points. GHASTS have the longest range of all mobs – they can hit you from 100 blocks away! They spawn only in…

FURNACES As well as melting ores, furnaces can be used to cook food. Their main strength is that they are multifunctional, in fact – they aren’t the fastest at cooking items, but if you only have a little space or crafting material available you can use them for lots of different things. Furnaces smelt one item for every 10 seconds they are lit, with the length of time depending on the fuel used. One piece of coal can smelt (or cook) eight items. You get 0.35 experience points for each piece of meat, fish or potato you cook in a furnace, and 0.1 experience for each piece of kelp you cook. ABOUT BEETROOT Beetroots are an edible crop that grow from seeds and can be eaten, crafted into recipes, or used as dye. They grow naturally in the Overworld and their seeds can be found in certain loot chests. Seeds can also be collected by harvesting fully grown beetroot crops. FARMING BEETROOT Beetroots can be found growing in some village farms. Each plot has a 10% chance of being beetroots at world generation time. Beetroot seeds can be planted in farmland to grow beetroot crops. The seeds can be collected by harvesting fully grown crops, which drop one to four beetroot seeds alongside beetroots themselves. Harvesting partially grown crops will yield only the originally planted seeds. The useful thing about beetroot is that it has only four stages of crop growth and therefore matures faster…

CHESTS! ABOUT CHESTS ABOUT CHESTS Chests are blocks that store items. A single chest has 27 inventory slots, and two placed adjacently with the same orientation will join to form a double chest with 54 slots. They are destructible but non-flammable and can only be opened if there is a non-opaque block above them. Chests can be used with a donkey, mule, or llama to add storage to it, although at this point the chest can’t be recovered. Donkeys and mules have 15 slots; llamas have 3 to 15 depending on their strength value. COLLECTING CHESTS Chests can be easily crafted on a crafting table – just surround the empty centre block with eight wood planks of any kind.
