Hello and a very spring-y welcome to the latest issue of Minecraft World! The weather’s better, and Minecraft keeps getting better too – and as you keep showing us issue after issue with your builds, there’s no limit to your creativity! We’ve got a magazine packed with ideas and tips for you again, from putting together a desert base (and don’t forget to send in pictures of any you build!) to speed running Minecraft. Whether you call it a base, a home or a shelter, creating a place where you can store stuff and stay safe from your enemies is essential in any game of Minecraft. But what can you do to make sure your base is the best? Here are our tips! PLANNING Don’t just start your base anywhere – make sure it’s somewhere with room to expand and resources close by. Deserts might seem like bad places to start because there’s so little wood around – but dense forests are worse, because lots of mobs spawn in the darkness and it takes ages to clear space to build. WHAT IS SPEEDRUNNING? The point of speedrunning is to beat a game as fast as possible, finding the quickest route to the end of the game. For players familiar with Minecraft, speedruns are a new challenge that allow them to test their skills and find new ways to approach the game! Unlike most games, Minecraft is open-ended, so a speedrun is hard to define. However, the gaming community considers a typical speedrun to have been successfully completed when the player defeats the ender dragon and enters the exit portal! TYPES OF SPEEDRUN Speedruns can take many forms, and in Minecraft there are a few common variations on the rules: SET SEED speedruns use a specific seed which might already be known by the users, where the location of items and structures is known in advance. WARDENS It’s been a long wait, but wardens have finally been added! These blind mobs are alerted to the presence of the player by sounds and vibrations in the sculk surrounding them, and are the only mob found in the deep dark biome. They emerge from sculk when summoned by a shrieker, and will retreat if they don’t sense any movement within one minute. With 250 health points and the ability to do 30 points of damage in one hit, this is a fight you don’t want to get into! BOATS WITH CHEST Another long-awaited addition, the boat-with-chest is crafted using a chest and any boat, and allows you to take a chest’s worth of inventory across large bodies of water. ROSES The rose was a bright red flower that was obtainable in Minecraft Java Edition up to version 1.7.2. You could find it growing wild in grasslands, and craft it into red dye. The change was made because roses don’t grow as single flowers – instead, they changed roses to poppies and added rose bushes. PIGMEN The original pigmen (which inspired the zombie pigmen mob) had the same model as a player, but used an all-pink pigman skin. There was a plan to use them as villagers, but actual villagers were added to the game instead! The idea eventually returned with the addition of piglins, though as you can see, the pigman skin is quite different! ENCHANTED GOLDEN APPLE RECIPE Enchanted golden apples can be collected as loot, but for a while they were craftable!…

ABOUT HELMETS Helmets are a type of armour you can wear on your head to protect yourself. A standard helmet can be made of leather (a cap), iron, chainmail, gold, diamonds, or netherite. A turtle shell can also be crafted out of scutes and worn as a helmet. Helmets can be crafted, but they also spawn as wearable items on zombies, husk s, strays and skeletons. The standard drop rate for armour on mobs is 8.5% – so if you kill 12 mobs wearing helmet s, you’d expect to collect just one. Note that mob armour is likely to be collected with existing durability damage, but can be repaired.
