It seems to have been a long wait, but finally we have the longer days and the warmer weather that signals it’s time to get away. I do feel I am in a very privileged position as I get to not only review all the submitted travel features that our Travel Editor, Helen, puts forward for publication, but also all the great ideas readers send in for travel features. I’ve been reading MMM and its earlier incarnations since the 1970s and I subscribe to the paper edition. Quite a few years ago, I tried the Pocketmags digital version. It was early days and I did not find it suited me. Partly because I was not used to the format and partly because, at that time, the layout of MMM didn’t seem to lend itself to the digital version and so I reverted back to my paper copies. Smart? I do not think so I am a qualified skydiver, scuba diver and have ridden some extremely lively horses in my time, but the most unnerving experience of my life was when I was driving my motorhome on a Smart motorway, knowing if it had broken down there would have been nowhere safe to pull over! With reference to the question in a recent issue of MMM regarding access to the toilet at night in a motorhome with a drop-down bed, we have a Bürstner Ixeo 586 with a similar roof bed to the Roller Team Pegaso 590. We do not drop the bed fully down, but just enough to clear the backs of the lounge seats. My wife gets into the bed by stepping onto the seat base and, from there, climbs into bed. If she requires the loo in the night, she gets down the same way. I sleep on the side nearest the front seats, which, for the purpose of sleeping, are reversed. I was interested to read the letter from Phil Rank about his airbag warning light repair and warranty (April, p124). I have a 2017 Benimar Mileo 201 (a wonderful motorhome), bought new, and earlier this year I had a similar problem, but had no trouble having it covered by my Fiat Maximum Care Camper extended warranty, arranged through Mopar. All I needed to do was to let my local Fiat Professional dealer have a photocopy of the Camper Care invoice. The airbag ECU was replaced without any fuss, or cost to me. The only problem was the delay in getting parts from Italy, probably because of the semiconductor shortage. Unfortunately, buying this warranty in the first place was not straightforward. We’ve been tuggers since 1972, but as we are now both in our 80s we are considering a campervan. Is there a website that we can put in the details of what we want and find manufacturers producing something matching our requirements? We want an automatic ’van and intend to use it as a day van for short outings as well as extended holidays. So, ideally, it should be short enough to fit a standard parking bay.
