SASFIN, the banking and financial services group, said yesterday in its annual report it had commissioned an ongoing independent investigation of the controversial cigarette manufacturer, Gold Leaf Tobacco. This follows an investigation into suspected financial misconduct at the cigarette producer. On August 26 this year, SA Revenue Services (Sars) issued a statement on its actions against Gold Leaf Tobacco and its associates, who were former clients of its foreign exchange unit in 2016 and 2017. Third quarter GDP likely to be hit hard by persistent power outages – Absa THE IMPACT of load shedding has forced Absa Bank to revise its third quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast that it made only in July to a negative 0.4%, which will put South Africa into a technical recession after the second quarter’s negative 0.7% print. In its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2022, the group said the inflation rate in Nigeria had risen to a 17-year high of 20.8% in September 2022.
