FOR MANY OF TODAY’S families, two dishwashers or dual sinks are a luxury, but for designer Sarah Blank’s clients, who keep kosher, they were a necessity. One set is used for prepping and cleaning up meat dishes, the other dairy, per kosher requirements that these never commingle. “It’s really two kitchens in one,” says Blank. Fitting that into the family’s 1920s Spanish Revival in New Rochelle, New York, was the real challenge. Undeterred, Blank set out to design a space that would make entertaining easy—and look spectacular. She began by adding 750 square feet to the home’s footprint, and planted a new kitchen in the addition.
