a little bit country

Still dreaming about my brunch at Henrietta Red, where the design and food were equally delicious, in Nashville’s hip Germantown neighbourhood.Starting the day with a smile: A warm welcome on the Reids’ front porch. I just had to snap a photo!Long before the soapy show of the same name hit the airwaves, I’d always wanted to visit Nashville. Something about the place had dug its cowboy-boot heels into my imagination from the time I was a little girl — whether it was Minnie Pearl’s flower-festooned hats on the Grand Ole Opry or the promise of southern barbecue, who’s to say. So naturally, when H&H had the chance to photograph the home of Scottish-Canadian country music superstar Johnny Reid, his wife, Jennifer, and their four kids, I assigned the story to…

your letters

I just received my March issue of House & Home. The featured home in “Cool & Collected” (“House & Home of the Month”) is a wonderful combination of beauty, pleasure and intelligence. I particularly loved the Paul Vincent painting on page 77.— ANONYMOUSI love House & Home magazine (and loved your great past TV series), but most of the homes you feature use a large amount of white and other neutral colours on walls, furniture, lighting, drapery and accessories. Please consider expanding your point of view with more colour options… and prices that the average Canadian can afford. Thank you.— ROGER JONESThe mailman just walked up carrying the ark of design (March)! Dived in: best issue in years! If my toddler touches this I will cry, lol. Absolutely. Full of…

All by Madcap Cottage through Robert Allen Design.1 BLEND COLOURS: “People get hung up on the idea that everything has to match. Things don’t have to match, they just have to blend. It’s a lot easier. A good rule of thumb: take one colour and carry it throughout a room. The eye is going to connect all those dots and it’s not going to be overwhelming.”2 USE MORE OF LESS: “Repeat fabrics but use them in a different way. Maybe in one…
