Many of us—citizens of a world dominated by endless Instagram scrolling, hustle culture, and urgency—are already familiar with a popular concept called ‘mindfulness’. But recently, I stumbled upon a delightful theory called savouring, which might be exactly what our fraught hearts need to experience greater joy and satisfaction. Savouring and mindfulness are related, sisters if you will, but not the same. Mindfulness encourages you to be aware of your thoughts and experiences. While savouring “is about cultivating the capacity to attend to, appreciate, and enhance the positive experience in one’s life,” explain Fred B Bryant and Joseph Veroff, authors of the book, Savoring.
