letter from the editor

Band of sisters The promos of Veere Di Wedding are making quite a buzz. The film shows a quartet of gal pals laughing, joking, cussing like real women. We’ve had lad movies like Dil Chahta Hai (2001) or 3 Idiots (2009) to name two obvious examples, where men swear eternal friendship to each while finding their feet in life. Wherever there are two leading men involved, it’s been about male bonding. Be it Sholay, whose Jai-Veeru are the gold standard of male friendship or Sangam in the ’60s, to this year’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety... each one of these films has sung hosannas about male friendship. But it’s not to say female bonding is absent from our films. I remember watching Mandi (1984). The camaraderie that the women shared in the…

SONAM MOVES TO LONDON Sonam Kapoor’s wedding last month was the glitziest event of the year till now. The diva, however, got back to work just two days after the wedding. The Cannes appearance and the Veere Di Wedding promotions kept her busy. After the release of the film, Sonam plans to travel to London with hubby Anand Ahuja before she starts work on her next film, The Zoya Factor. We hear the couple has bought a beautiful house in Notting Hill London. Sonam will be shuffling between London and Mumbai from now. They’ve also bought a palatial house in Bandra. DID YOU KNOW? The sequel of Go Goa Gone is on the cards. While the first part dealt with zombies, the second installment will feature aliens. Interesting, right? Kareena says no to Ashutosh! Since…

SUMIT PATWARI X FACTOR: COURAGE TO DREAM Born in a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, Sumit Patwari, like most kids, aspired to be a cricketer or a pilot. When childhood dreams seemed distant Sumit followed his father’s advice and moved to Mumbai to pursue medicine. But destiny pulled out the good-looking young man from medicine and led him towards modelling. Featuring in print ads initially, he also dabbled with theatre. Having a ear for music, Sumit, a vocalist and a guitarist, performs for bands as well. Waiting for the big screen leap, he takes inspiration from actors like Daniel Day Lewis and Naseeruddin Shah to hone his craft. John Cusack’s portrayal in High Infidelity is his dream role. When ambition is so clear, can achievement be far behind?…

dancing with the stars!

“ISHAAN KHATTER IS A BEAUTIFUL DANCER AND HAS THE RIGHT MOVES. JANHVI KAPOOR IS A CONFIDENT GIRL. SHE’S EXTREMELY HARD WORKING” We have all, at some point of time, stood in front of a mirror and relived our favourite actor’s hook steps. From Rekha’s Dil cheez kya hai, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Kajra re, Shah Rukh Khan’s Lungi dance to Sonam Kapoor’s Prem ratan dhan paayo... Closed doors have been host to music and madness. The latest addition to our repertoire of signature steps is the one seen in Channa mereya from Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM). While we cannot help but raise our hands up and sway like Raanbir Kapoor, it wasn’t as easy as it seems for dancer/ choreographer Tushar Kalia to come up wiith those nuances for…

“AS A TEEN, I BELIEVED ELOPING AND GETTING MARRIED MADE FOR THE BEST WEDDING. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN IN MY LIFE. SO, I PUT IT IN MY FILM DIL JUUNGLEE” After a decade-long successful career in adfilmmaking, Aleya Sen has now made her foray into directing a movie with the Taapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem starrer Dil Juunglee. Her shift from ads to films was not easy. Says she, “As a creative person, you want someone, who places faith in you, someone who believes your story is worth telling and putting money in. In my case, it was Jackky Bhagnani. Once he showed trust in me, things became smooth.” Set in Delhi, Dil Juunglee, is a rom-com written by Aleya. She says the characters are drawn from her own life. However, the story…

With the sparkling red carpet rolled out at Cannes 2018, stars from across the world came together to witness cinema at a global level. While Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto put Indian movies on the cinematic map this year, our divas ruled the red carpet with their flamboyant style and glamour. From Deepika Padukone’s frill fest in hot pink, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s full plume to Kangana Ranaut’s jazzy debut, we bring you all that was chic at the French Riveira. (Sonam Kapoor Ahuja hadn’t made her red carpet appearance when we went to print this issue) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan After a royal statement at the Cannes Film Festival last year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once again reigned on the red carpet with her maximalist choices. Her pastel off-shoulder gown at the press conference was only…
