return of the prodigal...

Once upon a time but not so long ago, I used to know Aamir Khan quite well. We have spent many a night talking about everything under the sun and not just cinema. I was privy to many little and big things in his life. Some of the things he has told me, talking to me not as a journalist, still would make for explosive news. I too reciprocated, burying the confidences deep somewhere in my psyche, keeping the reporter in me at bay. Over time, the bond that he shared with us journalists associated with the magazine faded away. There were still phone calls between us but no late night chats. Interviews became formal affairs. Managers and PR people came in between the equation. The intimacy evaporated. Professional courtesy replaced…

AMITABH BACHCHAN TO PLAY AAMIR’S FATHER Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are ready to share the big screen for the first time ever. They will be seen together in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s next, a period film, YRF’s Thugs of Hindostan. What’s interesting is the fact that the Big B will be seen playing Aamir’s father. Aamir has already begun prepping for the film, growing his long beard - reportedly right up to his stomach - and bulking up his body. The film is set for a Diwali 2018 release. AAMIR BACKS FATIMA We hear that Aamir Khan has been encouraging his protégé Fatima Sana Shaikh from Dangal to play one of the protagonists in Thugs Of Hindostan. The mentor has suggested that the young actress give an audition. If she manages to impress,…

When he gets time off from the ramp and rehearsals, Nayan enjoys reading, cooking, travelling, martial arts… and dreaming!…

Mitesh Mirchandani wanted to be a pilot. But his father refused to give wings to his desire as he believed the aviation industry was going through a lull then. But years later fly he did… albeit creatively. Life came full circle for the 26-year-old cinematographer when he ended up shooting Ram Madhvani’s Neerja inside a ‘real’ plane. The irony wasn’t lost on him when he recreated the real world of Neerja Bhanot, the braveheart airhostess who showed extraordinary courage under fire when her aircraft Pan Am Filght 73 was seized by hijackers. A replica of the Pan Am aircraft, created over 48 days, stood for the actual plane that was grounded at Karachi airport in 1986. Mitesh shot the entire film on a steadycam — avoiding the ‘over lit’ effect that…
