Do you have a dream house? I have a few. OK, to be truthful, I have so many that, a few years ago, I started a Pinterest board dedicated to my dream houses across the globe. I’m sitting down at the kitchen table to read your July issue, just after colouring my hair. Having lived in northern Ontario all my life, I find the notion of cabin/cottage amusing (“Editor’s Page”). My current home is 30 minutes from North Bay. We battle winter snows, rainstorms of thunder and lightning, sight deer eating cautiously in the fields, turtles crossing the road to their nesting grounds and, yesterday, the tall presence of a moose in the field. In June, the popular L.A.-based lifestyle brand opened its first Canadian pop-up shop in Toronto. The 1,300-square-foot space in The Hazelton hotel was designed by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, who were inspired by the here-today-gonetomorrow nature of film sets. The approach winks at founder Gwyneth Paltrow’s movie star status and the hotel’s rank as a favourite for Hollywood actors staying in the city. Your concept fridge panel for Monogram was a hit at the Interior Design Show Toronto last January. What inspired the design? I wanted to bring emotion and dimension to a flat panel, which is why I chose a look of draped tulle. It’s such an evocative material — veiling and that kind mystery go back to the original definition of glamour. Is your own home glamorous? I think so, but it’s a worn glamour.
