tv specials 2020

The In-Fisherman Television Specials have been airing across North America for over 40 years. In each show, In-Fisherman editors take you to three different parts of North America to fish for three different fish species—everything from bass and walleyes, to catfish and carp, sturgeon, muskies, pike, trout, salmon, and panfish like crappies, perch, bluegills, and white bass. From time to time, we also feature near-shore saltwater species like stripers, redfish, and tarpon. It’s entertainment that offers solid how-to-fish tricks and tactics to help you catch more fish. > IN-FISHERMAN TV AIRS ON:…

Night & Day Eye Protection in the Field ACCIDENTS ARE NEVER PLANNED; THEY just happen. In this case, the incident that befell longtime In-Fisherman friend Captain Bret Alexander (Green Bay-area, Wisconsin) could have happened to any of us, even though the point here is that with a take-action plan it never should have. Sunday evening, November 11, about 8, Bret is guiding clients on a night excursion for walleyes on the Fox River. They’re anchored in a key area, casting shallow-diving plugs to walleyes staged to feed on the shad that enter the river during late fall. His clients have been doing well the last several weeks, catching many walleyes surpassing 30 inches, with an occasional muskie thrown in, including a 55-incher a few days earlier. “Fish on,” a client yells, line taut…

Esox Bucket List Piscatorial Pursuits—In-Fisherman friend, former fishery biologist, and frequent Master Angler Award recipient Danny Kurttila wrote to us about his obsession with pikes, which has sent him around the world to catch all the known Esox species: My family has always been a big fan of pike. I continue to carry on that tradition but I’ve added all the pike species. When I first began my obsession, the known esocids were northern pike Esox lucius, muskellunge E. masquinogy (three subspecies: ohioensis, immaculatus, and masquinogy), chain pickerel E. niger, American pickerel E. americanus (two subspecies: redfin pickerel E. americanus and grass pickerel E. vermiculatus), and the Asian, Amur pike E. reichertii. Over the years, scientists changed some of the classifications (muskellunge are now a single species with a few strains), and added…

Field Editor Steve Quinn: Back in the early 1990s, when I became more involved in tournament fishing, Shimano’s Curado was “the reel” to have, once the transition had begun from classic round reels to “low-profile” models that matched many short-range bass tactics. While I didn’t own one of the original red Curados, which were released in 1991, I acquired several dark green ones shortly thereafter and several are functional more than 20 years later. Because Shimano has regularly endowed it with new features while keeping costs under control, this model has been the company’s most popular baitcaster over the years. In 2006, Shimano revealed three sizes of Curado CUDSV reels (100, 200, and 300), that had deeper spools to increase line capacity and power on these low-profile models, something that had…
