It’s the Law! THERE’S absolutely no doubt today’s world is wildly different from times past. Times when, what we didn’t know didn’t hurt us and also: we didn’t know, that we didn’t know. I’m running you around a bit here so I’ll straighten up and come clear. The internet has far surpassed any past communication system with new information arriving at our fingertips with pinpoint accuracy and within milliseconds of it being sent. There’s a ton of upsides to this and a big one is the availability of cars and parts. A couple of days ago I spotted a post on social media where a deuce coupe was being wheeled out of a barn where it’s rested for 50 years. It was for sale and looked really cool. A mere push…

Down South GOOD evening Paul. Bobbi and I have just completed our move South from Tauranga to Riverton Southland. The 110-year-old home we have bought is in the Main Street of Riverton and as it happens is across the road from the meeting place of the Riviera Cruising Club home of the local hot rodders and Street machines. There is a very strong movement here with many cars in evidence around Riverton every weekend. Quite nice to be able to watch the cars cruising past from home. It is a bit like Mt Maunganui was 50 years ago just nice and cruisy. We were invited to attend the Riviera Cruising Club’s monthly meeting a few weeks ago and I have to say they deserve a big mention for a small club.…

• Perfection? YOU may have heard of ex-pat Kiwi Dion Wilcox who used to live in Gisborne but now resides on Australia’s Gold Coast. Dion has a great eye for style and stance and backs it with skill. This deuce 5-window is just one of his knock-out creations and we’re delighted to see it cross the ditch to live in Mal Hurrell’s comfy garage. • Lemon Twist ONE of the best colour, interior and drivetrain packages came in the exact same combination as this ’67 roadster which arrived recently via Chuck’s. The 327ci smallblock powered car has had a complete rotisserie, nut and bolt restoration and is as magnificent underneath as it is on top. 98/100 and in Concours condition! • Multi-purpose THIS ’56 Chevrolet big back window is GM’s response to Ford’s big window…

HAVING recently traveled to the Alpine Street machines mid-winter rod run I was met by Stu who was keen to take me on a local shed raid. I’d seen Stu’s cool little 1929 Chev pickup around over the past year or so and was very impressed with its clean appearance and slick build. The attention to detail is truly amazing and very tasteful. The story goes back to September 2009: Stu and wife Jeannie had gone to visit friends who live in Prebbleton just out of Christchurch and only about 7 km from my humble abode. They had taken their black 1937 Chevrolet coupe street rod for a drive, certainly a good distance from Alexandra. By total coincidence, a Prebbleton local who owned a 1938 Chev coupe spotted Stu’s example and…

fifeshire’s 33-1/3 anniversary run

THE weather couldn’t have been better for Fifeshire’s weekend of fun. Over 30 cars from the top of the south joined in to help the club celebrate. Friday night saw early bird registrations take place at the local speedway club’s headquarters. After a casual start on Saturday, morning entrants were given the opportunity to try their luck at a few games - from piston throwing through to rolling dice. Once lunch had settled the cars headed off on a scenic drive through the country before finally arriving at Tractor World in Motueka. After tea participants returned to the club rooms to test out their general knowledge with a quiz night, which saw as many dubious questions asked as answers given. Sunday morning saw everyone heading out on a mystery run around…
