Startling! IN 15 years behind the keyboard, I’ve never seen anything as groundbreaking as Direct Air Capture, what’s that you ask? Hot rodder Mark Wilkin alerted me to this new technology via social media, and I’d never heard of it before so went looking. I soon discovered there was no quick answer; it involved a bit of web research and a fair bit of head scratching to get to understand what Direct Air Capture means and the implications for us. Without delving into the deep technicalities I’ll explain, so here’s goes: in simple terms, the Direct Air Capture process sucks the air out of the sky and harvests the carbon dioxide (aka CO2 and greenhouse gas) out of the captured air and returns pure air into the atmosphere. The harvested CO2…

Baseless Message on Social Media A response from Tony Johnson, CEO of the LVVTA. Some social media users may have seen the rather confusing and concerning ‘message’ relating to collector vehicles and modified vehicles below: “Blind implementation of percentage of electric cars to be on the roads in the next 7 years to replace “ older fuel burning vehicles” The leader of the Green Party ( coalition partner) mandating removal of older cars from NZ roads that dont meet CURRENT vehicle safety standards , Sub Section 4a of the proposed GCT that catergorically states “Collector Cars” will be taxable on profit generated. Transport Minister Twyfords statement at the 2018 RTF Conference that “modified vehicles have no place in NZ”..... and thats just the start.” I was made aware of this message from a number of…

• She’ll be Jake IF you’re into Model As or the coolest of all time hot rods then we’re sure you know Jim “Jake” Jacobs legendary 1929 Model A truck which has long been part of hot rod history. It’s one of that handful of milestone cars which looks great from all angles and just sits right, perfectly in proportion: there’s nothing you’d change. Ken Kennedy has owned it for the past 31 years and taken very good care of it. He actually drove the truck from Illinois to California to feature in the celebration of Model As at the 2019 GNRS. Ken is now selling the pickup in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own it. Asking price is USD 100K. • Quiz night question IS this the original item which Buick used to…

• Longer the Better LONGROOFS are making their return a solid comeback thanks to affordable cruisers like this ’68 Ford Country Sedan. This example is a dry California car imported for resale by Chucks. A new set of American Racing black-centred 5-spokes gives the ’68 an air of elegance and style beyond the look of the factory wheel covers. It’s an excellent candidate for eventing in anyone’s book! • Alcoholic PIETER van Bergen imported this 1980 front engine dragster from Lake Havasu City in Arizona USA back in April. The dragster runs a 528ci Mopar engine which is fed Alcohol and backed by a Powerglide to a Nodular 9” diff. We’re looking forward to catching the action when this awesome digger hits the strip! • Resto-Mod THIS drop-dead gorgeous ’56 four-door Bel Air just arrived…

THE Oldsmobile was always marketed as a high-end General Motors car, supposedly a step above the “humble” Chevrolet. Because of this, sales figures were low in comparison; they now seem to be quite a rare ‘beast’ indeed. Steve imported this 1956 model from the States where rumour has it spent a lot of its later life in a police impound yard, complete with bullet holes in the windows. Whether it was just a derelict used for target practice or used as a “getaway” car in a robbery, we will never know but never let the truth get in the way of a good story. On arrival in NZ, the original patina was too cool to destroy, so it was decided to do several small touch ups and just cover it all in…
