A few months ago, my mom gave me an unexpected gift: my senior year high school yearbook. Curious, I looked up my senior quote, expecting something profound. Instead, I found: “It’s not the givin’. It’s not the gettin’. It’s the lovin’. There, I said it.” It’s the lesson Garfield learns at the end of A Garfield Christmas Special, a television program I watched repeatedly as a kid. It was a nice sentiment, but…Garfield? Did I really want to be remembered by a quote from the lazy cartoon cat obsessed with lasagna?
