As summer vacations wind to an end and kids head back to school, don’t store away the RV for winter quite yet; there’s still plenty of RVing and camping to be had. Trips may dwindle to just weekends, which creates a wonderful opportunity to search closer to home for new places to visit. We at RVD took our own advice and headed to Cuyahoga Valley to visit Ohio’s National Park, just a mere four and a half hours from our home base. Read all about the beautiful area in this issue. For many RVers and campers, it’s easy to plan those far away trips that we’ve dreamed about for years: Yellowstone, Arches, Yosemite, Glacier. But we tend to forget about what’s in our backyards. We encourage you to get out…

q&a

Where are you camping at the moment and what do you love about it? Camping at Fiesta Key in the Florida Keys. Great place. Sunning fishing and great tiki bar. This Memorial weekend we are staying at Hamlin Beach SP in upstate New York. This campground is close enough to home that we could come back for an emergency, but it’s far enough away that we feel like we are on vacation. Just as the name implies, there are several beaches for relaxing by the water. Although none of the campsites is on the water, it is just a short walk and they can be enjoyed by all. The campsites are spacious and wooded. And if we feel like venturing out of the campground, a drive to Rochester will be an experience…

The second-smallest state in the U.S. gets a bad rap for being dull or boring, but it’s a hidden gem that will satisfy every picky vacationer on your list. Its compact size doesn’t mean that it lacks endless possibilities. You don’t have to travel as far to get there. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. Head toward the coast in the southern part of the state, and you’ll find Cape Henlopen State Park. The park offers all styles of camping, no matter…

mccall idaho

Chances are that “Idaho” is coming up much more frequently in your travel planning searches lately … and for good reason! Idaho in general, and its rising star of McCall, is quickly gaining popularity as more and more people discover its many gems. This exciting, resort-style town is surrounded by mountains and nestled on the shores of beautiful and accessible Payette Lake in western Idaho.
