The more years a yacht is on the water, the more lives it has. We’ve been following a number of examples for our Refits Special in this issue, including the amazing Jon Bannenberg-designed Coral Ocean (page 52), which has gone from being a very private yacht to a desirable present-day charter proposition. You can also read about the magnificent Feadship Constance (page 42), which arrived at the Pendennis yard as uninsurable. She, too, is back to her pristine best and starting a new career as a long-range cruising yacht. And you can find out about the world-girdling sailing yacht Adèle (page 48), ready for another season of adventure, and the restoration of two classic Feadship sisters (page 58). Each yacht holds the PROMISE of ADVENTURE We’ve also been talking to two owners…

How do you describe Savannah ? I think the point is, you don’t. She speaks for herself, in a Babel-like hundred different tongues, drawing parallels before running off in opposite directions, creating juxtapositions, then coming together again to create a harmonious whole. She is quite simply an extraordinary - and extraordinarily unique - superyacht. “A boat has to be in contact with the WATER, you can’t lose that CONNECTION” The 83.5-metre Feadship’s striking exterior with her minimalist lines and sharp axe bow belies her soft and homely interior. There are no harsh monochromes or sharp edges as might be expected, instead the eye is greeted with warm metallics and a ‘marine’ palette, and, of course, impossibly soft carpets. Key design features on board are the rounded rooms. This not only serves to…

massimo perrotti

When we interviewed Massimo Perrotti, CEO of Sanlorenzo, for the first issue of SuperYacht World in 2008, he was four years into the job and a man with big plans. "When I took over Sanlorenzo, turnover was €40 million. It is now €130 million. I want it to be €200 million!” He was speaking at a golden time for the superyacht industry, when brimful yards had clients queuing up outside the factory gate and it felt as if turnover would keep growing as naturally as a cornfield in July. Much of the following period, of course, has been a choppy one, but Sanlorenzo has managed to keep progressing after a steadying of the ship: its 2016 turnover reached €250 million, and €275 million is projected for 2017. It’s a steady progression…

ready for new horizons

You know your yacht is in need of a comprehensive refit when the surveyor’s report can be summed up in a single word: uninsurable. That was the status of the 46.3-metre Constance when she arrived at Pendennis in December 2014. Originally built as Paminusch by Feadship in 1986 before being renamed Jana , the yacht was under new ownership, but retained her original 30-year-old systems and engineroom equipment. What followed was an 18-month refit. On the owner’s wishlist was a refresh of the interior to his own tastes, ensuring the structural integrity of the yacht and that it complies with offshore cruising requirements, and to modernise systems and equipment to improve efficiency and to meet current emissions regulations. The first thing that strikes you about the reborn yacht is how sympathetically the…
