welcome to the inside soap yearbook 2020

There’s no doubt that girl power has ruled our screens in 2019 – and the Inside Soap Yearbook is full of all of your favourite soap divas! We’ve seen cobbles queen Carla bravely battle her mental health issues, Sharon and Mel square up against each other over in Walford, survivors Sienna and Sinead triumph over evil rapist Laurie in Hollyoaks, and Dee Bliss even came back from the dead in Neighbours. In fact, almost every night is ladies’ night in soapland! But that’s not to say that we haven’t got our fair share of fit fellas in here as well. Who could forget Cain and Nate’s epic showdown in Emmerdale, or Robbo’s fight for justice in Home and Away? Oh, and turn to p86 to see what drama Santa will be…

2019… from a to z!

A is for… Awesome! Yes, the soaps were just so full of shocks, plots, gasps and laughs, we’re surprised we can fit it all in one magazine. If next year is any more action-packed, we’ll have to make our Yearbook a two-parter! B is for… Bosh! Fists have been flying all over the place during the past 12 months, mostly in Ben Mitchell’s direction! Since he returned to the Square in January, we reckon that he’s been walloped a thump-tastic 15 times, by everyone from Callum to Keanu! C is for… Coming out! There has been many a gay day in the soaps this year. From Bernadette’s explosion on to the gay scene during Walford Pride to Hollyoaks’ Mitchell facing up to his true feelings, soapland has been flying the rainbow flag! D is for… Daddy…

till death do us part!

What better way to kick off the new year than with a happy occasion, such as a wedding? Sadly there was no fairy-tale ending in store for bride Mel, though, as she’d just found out that her future hubby Ray was already married – to two other women! Having met up with Ray’s wives, Maddie and Nicola, Mel opted not to confront her bigamist fiancé, but to forge ahead with the wedding instead. Her plan was to fleece dodgy Ray for every penny he had, before marrying him, reporting him to the cops and having him arrested – so she and her son Hunter could live a life of luxury from Ray’s ill-gotten gains. It would have been a brilliant plan too, if only Ray hadn’t got suspicious of Mel’s odd behaviour…

the big moment

MEL You really think I’m going to let you swan off with fake passports and a big pile of cash, skip overseas and ruin someone else’s life? No. RAY That would be fine, if Hunter was where you think he is. But he’s not in my car, he’s with a friend. MEL You’re lying! RAY You think I managed to escape police custody without any help? No one is that good. Did you happen to see a white van travelling in the opposite direction on your way here? MEL I don’t know. Yeah, maybe. RAY Well, that was my friend, he’s got your boy in the back. I don’t underestimate you, Mel, I know the woman I married is strong. Resourceful. Passionate. MEL Shut up! You do not get to wheedle your way back in here. RAY…

break the silence

Hollyoaks opened the new year strong, with the climax to its huge abuse story – which saw Ollie and Brody face vile football coach Buster in court. The week brought lots of huge plot twists, as Brody’s historic case was dropped due to lack of evidence – prompting his best mate Damon to lie to the police that he’d witnessed his dad abusing Brody when they were kids! Meanwhile, as the weeklong trial got underway, more of Buster’s previous abuse victims slowly started to speak out about his horrific actions – but what really sealed his fate was a voicemail he’d left on Imran’s phone, proving that he’d also tried to assault him. Buster was eventually sentenced to six years in prison for his actions, while Hollyoaks was lauded for this…

look who’s back!

There’s no such thing as a quiet Dingle wedding – but Marlon and Jessie’s nuptials were more dramatic than most, after Dingle legend Mandy gatecrashed proceedings! It had been 17 years since Mandy was last in the village, and the fact that she turned up with her 16-year-old son Vinny in tow raised a few eyebrows – especially since she’d been in a relationship with Paddy just before she left! Could he be Vinny’s dad? It didn’t take long for a fight to break out between Mandy and Chas, but Mandy actually had another bombshell in store for Paddy when she revealed a secret about his father……
