Back when fall was turning to winter, we learned that we would be shooting our summer issue in California. Our hearts lifted—and we set about planning a fully beach-worthy issue. So here you will find things you’ve never seen in the pages of Interweave Crochet: Not just one bathing suit, but two! Barefoot sandals! Body jewelry! Four surfer dudes in crochet shorts! And a purely delightful mermaid beach blanket As the projects started arriving, we could already smell the scent of the ocean wafting in and hear the crash of waves. The actual shoot was everything we’d imagined and more. A storm had washed up a boat, which made the perfect backdrop for our own Ariel. Our dudes rocked the shorts (and wanted to take them home). COVER GIRL! I love Interweave Crochet’s fashion-forward designs that are wearable and fun. I look forward to each new issue, whether or not there is a perfect project for me. When I saw the Provence Dress in the Spring 2016 issue, I knew it was perfect for my daughter, Tara. I am a huge Doris Chan fangirl, because her patterns are top down and seamless. I love that the dress could be tried on periodically to ensure a perfect fit. The charts that were included made the pattern crystal clear. I used Malabrigo sock yarn in the Abril colorway and added Czech glass beads to the neckline, sleeves, and hem. It is a gorgeous, feminine dress that looks beautiful and was a joy to crochet. Earlier projects I made—both also cover projects!— are the…

1 PATTERN HOLDER PLUS STORAGE by YarnValet is the perfect storage solution for on-the-go warm weather crocheting. Tuck a pattern in the clear plastic tube, both to protect it from splashes and for optimal viewing. The hexagon end caps keep it from rolling away, even if you pop one end off to use as a drink holder! There’s just enough room to stow a hook, small skein of yarn, and project in the tube, which is 9 inches tall and 11½ inches in circumference. www.yarnvalet.com. 2 SOAK. At the end of the day, refresh those handmade lacy cover-ups and crocheted swimsuits with Soak, available scentless or in five scents, including Lacey (pictured) a blend of spring blossoms and sweet bergamot.
