This buyer’s guide season, I decided to undertake a project I’ve long been excited about—setting up a proper smart home. For months, I’ve been collecting all the gear I could get my hands on, from light bulbs to door locks to a doggy cam that spits kibble at my unsuspecting German Shepard. For the kitchen, I tested a Bluetooth-connected kettle and air fryer that lets me make healthy versions of decadent dishes like crispy sweet potato fries and chicken wings. Setting up a smart home requires a considerable time investment and a fair amount of trial and error.
