closing up shop

“Beads make people happy.” That simple truth, spoken by Bead&Button magazine founder Alice Korach, has been the bedrock of this magazine since its founding in 1993. We at Bead&Button have had the privilege of spreading happiness around with each issue and, in later years, through the Bead&Button Show, our website, books, and much more. But after almost 27 years of serving a global audience of passionate, creative jewelry-makers, it is time to close up shop. The changes all of us have embraced, such as a digital marketplace that multiplied our options for content, have also created some challenging business conditions. The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on businesses and public events was a factor in this very difficult decision, as well. The issue you are holding is Bead&Button’s last. If you are one of…

excellent embroidery

The Rodeo Set This is the first bead-embroidery set I ever made. I began making jewelry in May 2017 using the soutache technique. Soon after, I discovered other amazing methods such as bead weaving, bezeling rivolis, bead embroidery, and using shibori silk. I created this set while thinking about the biggest event held annually in my hometown: the Rodeo. I embellished special turquoise and red crackled cabochons with Czech seed beads and SuperDuo beads in gold, white, red, and turquoise all of which are stitched onto suede backing. Anca Vanetea Houston, Texas Bella Lace Necklace I bead-embroidered my necklace on Venise lace backed with Ultrasuede. It’s embellished with shibori silk and Anna Bronze metal pieces. The center-most filigree component is part of Sherry Serafini’s 2018 Bella class kit. I was so excited as soon as…
