HEAD SPACE
When I’m in an airport, I do what most people do. I scramble through security removing belt, shoes, liquids, metal objects, and laptop, trying to get through as quickly as I can with the least amount of hassle possible. When I arrive at the gate, I feel like I’ve run a gauntlet. I collapse in a seat and stare at my phone, avoiding eye contact with anyone else. But lately I’ve been experimenting with doing something new: Nothing. In a public space, look around and you’ll see that everyone (except the occasional infant) is on their phone. I’ve always enjoyed people-watching, but now I actively watch people interacting with other people on their screens. I see them smiling over a funny post or a text from a friend. I see them…
