Uncertain Times WE ARE LIVING IN VERY uncertain times when one does not know if one can step out of one’s home. The second wave of COVID-19 has hit the economy once again when it was just about limping back to a semblance of normality. The automobile industry is a soft target which gets highly taxed, but, at the same time, it is this industry that rose to the challenge during the first wave by manufacturing ventilators and now, during the second wave when there was an alarming shortage of oxygen, stepped in to supply oxygen. At the same time, it does not get any respite in terms of lowering the GST rate or removing some of the cesses. While the finance minister talks about stimulus packages to boost the economy wherein…

what makes us different

UNLIKE OTHER AUTOMOBILE magazines, Car India is 100 per cent devoted to cars, SUVs and MUVs. There are no bikes or commercial vehicles to be found in Car India. Therefore, we have a very focused readership and also give our advertisers better bang for their buck! Our editorial team is passionate about cars. They eat, drink, live and breathe cars. This lends the crucial extra touch to their editorial efforts. Our editorial team is bound by a strict code of conduct. In an industry where foreign junkets and gifts are rampant in order to win over editorial staff, we strive hard to maintain our editorial integrity and balance. Our emphasis is on bringing out a quality, information-packed issue that does not rely on mere filling up of pages. We are not in competition…

THE LEXUS NX IS AN INTERESTING proposition for those seeking a luxury brand other than the Germans, the Iron Mark diagonal slat or the big cat and its beefy brethren. Lexus have always delivered a different experience, prioritizing technology, comfort, and efficiency over outright performance and the new Lexus NX rightly takes things to the next level. For starters, the new NX brings sharper, more distinctive lines and a swoopier roof-line for a coupé-style silhouette. The spindle grille is snazzier and features an intricately intertwined mesh design. The evolved Lexus design language embraces “simplicity rooted in technology and uniqueness in proportions that contribute to a dynamic performance”. The NX has grown larger, measuring 4,660 millimetres long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,640 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm. Wheel sizes…

ace of service

VOLKSWAGEN INDIA HAVE TAKEN things to the next level as far as service is concerned. With the revamped TCO programme, they aim to lower maintenance cost and improve customer experience. The “India 2.0” strategy was a huge step in the right direction for them and “Sarvottam 2.0” further strengthened their cause. The latter is a comprehensive approach to making VW an accessible, young, and aspirational brand. The new initiative holds many advantages for owners of the highly-localized Taigun and they will also have positive benefits for all VW owners in the country. Infrastructural upgrades and localization have brought about significant changes in the service structure and these benefits have been passed on to the customer as well in the form of reduced cost of maintenance. To be specific, customers can now…

All the Bells and Whistles? Over the past couple of weeks, I have been going over multiple brochures of various manufacturers. One thing I noticed was that there was a huge difference in price between the penultimate variant and the fully-loaded model of any given car. Sometimes, the difference in price is justified by a few extra features including LED lights, electrically-adjustable drivers' seat and the like. Which features would be justified as a meaningful purchase instead of frivolous spending? Anantha Padmanabhan, Kollam Dear Anantha, If the extra money buys you features that will make your drive safer and more convenient, then go for it. For example, driver aids such as hill descent control and extra airbags will be useful while things like a sunroof and ambient lighting are more to the tune of…
