This frustrated many at Sant’Agata, but didn’t stop owners competing in the Miura, about which a new masterwork has just been published (p34). Here, chassis 3090 lines up for the 1968 Grande Prémio do Automóvel Club de Portugal at Granja do Marquês circuit, entered by businessman Paolo Colmbra for local ace Mário ‘Nicha’ Cabral. The Miura, which had glassfibre front and rear clamshells and a modified exhaust, retired from the race. There are certain cars whose effect is so mesmerising, whose impact so jaw-dropping, that they live far longer in the memory than any other. cars keep moving despite lockdown restrictions

The classic industry has had to take an agile approach, to borrow a tech buzzword, during the past few months. For a sector that is for most a hobby, a luxury, the potential shutting down of workforces and suppliers for an indefinite period could have critical consequences. Likewise for the enthusiasts and collectors whose livelihoods are threatened – among the first to go would be the drain in the garage. goodwood plans digital spectacular

Goodwood is working on a behind-closed-doors replacement for the cancelled 2020 Festival of Speed, Revival and Members’ Meeting events, which will feature historic racing and new cars sharing the limelight for the first time. Referenced in the announcement that confirmed the cancellation, it is expected to be based at the Motor Circuit rather than the House, and plans are believed to include starting on a Thursday in mid-October, continuing through the weekend in a four-day online extravaganza. Goodwood could not comment on what the plans for the event will be at the time of going to press, but said further details will be announced soon including how viewers will access the show. organisers pencil in to start show season

Marks are tentatively being made on the 2020 classic car calendar, as organisers look to take advantage of the easing of lockdown restrictions. The London Concours, held in the City of London at the Royal Artillery Company, has committed to 19-20 August, with fewer tickets available and split morning and afternoon. A larger space will also be in use to conform with social-distancing guidelines. The Concours of Elegance will take place a fortnight later at Hampton Court Palace in London from 4-6 September (above), with a limited number of tickets – but the organisers state that from the inaugural event it ‘has sought to avoid feeling crowded’.
