What we do not use anymore becomes a style icon What was will no longer be. But what was must be remembered because it is our history and our memory, without which we are nothing. What was is what carries who we are. The millennials must dialogue with the analog generations, as much as fashion must take into account the new demands dictated by new lifestyles. But fashion as well, like the people who create it and wear it, has to deal with the past in order to renew itself in a coherent way. A recent past indeed, a truly important past that suddenly, and we must stress the importance of the word suddenly, has become obsolete and anachronistic but without which we would not be who we are. So it…

trends on the catwalks and in museums

WE EXPLORE THE WAY IN WHICH FASHION AND ART ARE CLOSELY CONNECTED Runways and museums often offer the same interpretation of what we call trends. There is no direct connection but we could say that there is a set of factors that connects fashion and art with a thin invisible thread. We identify three trends seen on the catwalks of the four major international fashion weeks and connect them with three major exhibitions in three different locations around the world. The first trend concerns the return on the catwalks of elements borrowed from the 1980’s, such as statement volumes, as seen at Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford in New York, at Saint Laurent, Isabel Marant and Miu Miu in Paris, at Alberta Ferretti and Versace in Milan and at Gareth Pugh…

new challenges /   nuove sfide

After working at Pure London for the last five years performing roles such as portfolio director and show director, Julie Driscoll is since October 2017 the managing director of the biggest fashion trade show in the United Kingdom. Attracting more than 17,000 visitors twice a year, Pure London now covers the entire circular chain production thanks to the debut of Pure Origin. The new section dedicated to materials and outsourcing sits alongside the pre-existing areas focused on womenswear, young fashion, menswear and accessories, a segment to which more and more space has been devoted to in recent years. In occasion of the latest edition of Pure London, which took place in the British capital from February 11th to 13th, I had the pleasure to meet the delightful Ms Driscoll. We…

dolci conversazioni

JEWELS FOR ALL TASTES. THE LAUNCH IN BOLOGNA OF THE DOLCI CONVERSAZIONI ITINERANT EXHIBITION On Valentine’s Day, the Italian city of Bologna was seduced and enchanted by the ‘Dolci Conversazioni’, in English ‘Sweet Conversations’, exhibition. From February 14th to 25th at the Grand Hotel Majestic, formerly Hotel Baglioni and organised by Ridefinire il Gioiello and curated by Sonia Patrizia Catena, the exhibition aims to be an experience to be enjoyed fully. The world of jewellery is seen in a completely different light: not only its main protagonists are sustainable jewels, therefore ethically perfect, because what emanates beauty naturally and intrinsically must be, above all, “good and fair”. But the jewels are also matched with delicious patisserie creations! Ridefinire il Gioiello is an itinerant exhibition whose destination are Bologna, Verona, Genoa and…

interview with azhar safinova, founder /   intervista a azhar safinova, fondatrice di

How have you decided to go from business consulting to launching an e-commerce platform? The world of fashion e-commerce in Italy is growing very rapidly and nowadays there aren’t many online and offline stores offering alternative luxury products. After the positive experience of some trunk shows overseas, our success came about thanks to the collaboration with a number of completely new brands. I wanted to give continuity to this project, first online with the e-commerce platform and then with a brick-and-mortar store, which is located in via Lanzone 7 in Milan. How important is it for an e-commerce platform to have a brick-and-mortar shop? For a small e-commerce like ours, it is very important as we deal with small quantities and with artisanal products that must be touched, felt, tested and experience first…
