merry Christmas, one and all! And welcome to our bumper festive issue. I love Christmas. I love the twinkling lights everywhere you look, the mulled wine and the excuse to spend time with your loved ones while wearing novelty jumpers. But I’ve been thinking a lot about this letter, because while the pressure for anything Christmas-related to be unrelentingly positive is immense, it isn’t an unrelentingly positive time for all of us As the child of divorced parents, I find Christmas incredibly hard at times, and have spent this month grappling with my heartbreaking annual choice of who I’m with for the “big day”, never able to spend it with all of the people I love or keep everyone content. But equally, I feel hugely grateful to have family. So many of…

how to shop the issue

Happy shopping, everyone! 1 Look for the “shoppable” icon. Everywhere you see this symbol, the items featured on that page are shoppable – as is every advert in this magazine. 2 Next, head to shop.cosmopolitan.co.uk on your mobile. 3 Once there, tap the camera icon. Focus on the specific product you want (it even works where multiple products are layered on top of each other) and take a photo. You’ll then be redirected to a separate page where you’ll be able to buy it. 4 And... that’s really it! To get your shopping fix even quicker, you can also create a shortcut to shop.cosmopolitan.co.uk on your home screen. If you’re an Android user, you should be automatically prompted to do so. If you’re an Apple user, just open the Safari browser’s menu and select…

Oh hi, Mariah The undisputed queen of Christmas throws open the doors to her winter palace. We also asked her to answer all your festive dilemmas (unfortunately, “How can I get a personalised robe and director’s chair?” wasn’t one of them). Cosmo Swingers Nope, not the title of a forthcoming Channel 5 docusoap, but our very special team day out at Swingers Crazy Golf. Here’s our art team on the, er, green. Hungover hook-ups Beauty writer Kate Pasola got drunk (and hungover) in the name of SCIENCE. We know, it’s a tough gig but you’re 100% welcome for the resulting feature (p96). Beauty big hitters The shoot for our 2019 Beauty Awards. Not pictured: the other 84 products, and the blood, sweat and tears of our beauty team. All fur coat and (really big) knickers Model Ishi poses with…

ANNE HATHAWAY Could have been: Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook, but turned it down due to “creative differences” with the film’s director, David O Russell. Instead: Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress at the Oscars. Meanwhile, Anne played Fantine in Les Misérables, winning Best Supporting Actress. A silver lining? MARILYN MONROE Could have been: Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Marilyn’s advisers thought that playing a “woman of the night” might tarnish the star’s image. Instead: Audrey Hepburn got a Best Actress Oscar nom. Marilyn started Something’s Got To Give, but the film was abandoned after her death. WILL SMITH Could have been: Neo in The Matrix. Will heard the pitch and said that he “just didn’t see it”. Instead: Will starred in Men In Black, which made less than The Matrix, but was equally iconic. Neo was played…

come again?

CHARLIE’S ANGELS So what’s going on? A trio of spies fight a mission for their boss Charlie, soundtracked by Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey. Who’s in it? Kristen Stewart, Sam Claflin, Patrick Stewart and a fresh-from-Aladdin Naomi Scott. What’s new? It’s more “action” than the ’00s version. Plus it’ll make you want to start fights with misogynists. Is it better though? Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games) stars and directs, so quite possibly, yes. LIZZIE McGUIRE SAVED BY THE BELL So what’s going on? AC Slater and Jessie Spano return as parents, while Zack – now a Governor – is in trouble after closing too many low-income schools. Who’s in it? Most of the main gang, except Screech (but we still remember his sex tape). What’s new? It’ll be the usual SBTB hijinks – with…

ask me anything

What’s the last thing you got angry about? At the airport, they made me take off my shoes, my belt and my hat and somehow I still got pulled aside for a pat-down and another screening once I got through the gate. At that point it just felt like humiliation. The only place I could be hiding any weapons was in my ass so I was like, “Is that what we’re attempting to find out here?” Name your favourite animated film that you’re not in? Aladdin. It’s the one I come back to over and over again, and I always find something new and inspired in Robin Williams’ performance. It’s the gold standard for me. I would definitely want to play the Genie if I was cast in Aladdin but also I couldn’t…
