“we can confidently say the future is bright for nintendo”

We say it every summer, and each year it gets more applicable: what a time to be a gamer! Whatever machine you favour, 2016 looks to be the most cataclysmically brilliant bout of gaming yet. And for the first time in what feels an age we can confidently say that the future is bright for Nintendo, too. It’s pulled back the curtain and revealed a show-stopping new Zelda. We’ve played it and you can read all about it – as well as 50 other cracking games to come – in our magbreakingly vast super-feature. God Of War, Titanfall 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Battlefield 1, Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare… the list of big hitters on the horizon has our saliva glands in overdrive. And there are a few surprises in there too.…

THE MOST DEDICATED TEAM IN THE BUSINESS They said it couldn’t be done. They said we’d never get 51 games into 36 pages. They were wrong. We’re starting to think that we should stop listening to the man from Del Monte’s nay-saying evil cousins. Rob Crossland “What games are you excited about then, Rob?” we asked, as if we didn’t already know that he’ll be playing The Division until the cows come home. Or until Dollar Flu becomes a real thing. Wait, did he lend Ben lunch money this week? Evacuate! Zelda item you’d use in real life? Boomerang, for his Yuffie cosplay. Robin Valentine As both prod ed and the youngest member of the team, it’s Robin’s duty to make sure we know what terms likeTrolldad or LOLzy mean. It’s also why he’s allowed to use…

letter of the month

Why has there been so much hate for Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare? Seriously, I cannot understand why people are bashing it. As I write this we’ve only seen a single trailer that doesn’t even show any gameplay. COD fans want boots on the ground, I get that, but the last game to have this in the series was Ghosts, and look how well that ended up. They asked for something different, and got Advanced Warfare, and then they bashed that too. I’ve been playing COD for about seven or eight years now and I’ve played every campaign, every multiplayer, and tried every bonus mode. There are few things that came off to me personally as ‘awful’ and ‘should never be put in another game again’. Infinite Warfare looks like it’ll…

“MOST GAME STORIES STRUGGLE TO EQUAL BADLY WRITTEN FILMS” The write stuff I agree with Stan Cohen (see GM303!) that stories are important to games. But I have to wonder what his reading material consists of if he believes storytelling in games is on par with great literature. Games aren’t remotely close to equaling the quality of writing found in books. You can’t begin to compare the childish and simple stories in games with the likes of Aeschylus and Shakespeare, or even Tolkien. Just having themes of things like love and death does not make for a great story. It’s the literary quality that makes the difference. Most games struggle to reach a level equal to badly written movies. I think it’s sad that gamers think The Last Of Us is good, much less…

wish list

Blast Corps… imagine that! Powered by Cryengine! Alex Shute, Facebook Road Rash – I’d happily settle for the same game just with added online multiplayer. Clint Tokley, Facebook Double Dragon – a classic that could look and sound amazing on modern hardware. David Newland, Facebook Medievil… that game was my childhood! (Literally, it was the first video game I ever played.) George G, @fireburnsred292 Black and White deserves a reboot, if only so I can chuck more villagers in the sea using an evil cow. Ben Griffin, Senior Staff Writer Brian Lara Cricket – I used to love summers of recreating the Ashes on it! Ben Tyrer, @bentyrer…
