“should you get switch? which games should be on your radar?”

Ah, that magical feeling is in the air. The birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and people everywhere are dreaming of fresh, unexplored worlds of gaming. That can only mean one thing: it’s time for a brand new console. How, then, could we not give over a seriously hefty chunk of this issue to Nintendo’s bouncing baby, Switch? We’ve gone hands-on with the portable/ home console hybrid to bring you everything you need to know. Should you get one? Which games need to be on your radar? How good is it at simulating the milking of a cow? All these questions and more answered within… Nintendo’s machine a little too colourful and friendly for you? THE MOST DEDICATED TEAM IN THE BUSINESS This month, the team’s been charged with clearing out all the years of accumulated tat ahead of an office refurb. Anyone want this broken joystick? The Fable Legends novelisation? A one-can USB fridge? No? Ben Griffin The griminess of Resident Evil 7 is so realistic that Ben was struck down by a nasty illness immediately after playing it. Now we’re concerned he may actually have become zombified. Not that shuffling around and groaning are out of character for him. Favourite ever Nintendo character? Blathers Rob Crossland Even Xbox-loving art editor Rob has been getting into the Nintendo spirit for this issue – one morning we caught him staring lovingly at pictures of Animal Crossing villagers. We don’t have the heart to break it to him that you can’t play The…

letter of the month

May I ask what your (and all your awesome readers’) thoughts are about coping with mental health through games and gaming? The social aspects of online gaming also enable me to chat to friends and other people I might struggle to speak to in person. I would love to see more positive press/news articles on this matter, and it’s really refreshing to see games like the upcoming…

NES step Recently I’ve got back into playing a lot of older games: mainly N64 and PS2. However, each time I play I’m always panicking that there will be a technical problem that a quick blow into the cartridge or wipe of the CD won’t fix. I got a few PS2 games this Christmas and sadly some of them bring me to the dreaded ‘disc could not be read’ message. This got me wondering, why aren’t there more older games available? Why have a backwards-compatible library that only really focuses on last-gen games? That said though, what I’d really like to see is new versions of older consoles, like the new NES that Nintendo released last year. I hope the popularity of that bit of hardware starts a trend for other old…
