“use our huge ffxv feature as a salve after that delay”

Don’t you just love it when the people pulling the shots over at the bigger publishers do exactly what you want with your favourite game series? It seems to be a theme this ish. Resident Evil 7 threatens to rediscover a whole new brand of terror. Will it succeed? Flick to p26 to find out, and then follow through for our collated Halloween special preview blow-out. Similarly seismic is Final Fantasy XV. It’s almost here, and you can use our huge cover feature as a salve after that heart-breaking delay. It’s rammed with details, including revealing interviews with the bods behind the action. A fitting final game for me to cover in these hallowed pages as well. That’s right: I’m off. It’s been an honour and a pleasure working on this ace mag…

THE MOST DEDICATED TEAM IN THE BUSINESS Matt might be off to pastures new from next month, but he’s set up an intricate series of Rube Goldberg machines around the office to ensure things stay on track. Well, he put some cricket bats on strings. Rob Crossland There’s only been one game on art ed Rob’s radar this month, and it’s bayonet-charging WWI shooter Battlefield 1. At least that’s what we assume he was up to during the open beta when he took some days off. Feeling a little horse, apparently. If you had a limit break, what would it be? The Keys-In-Fist Windmill Strike Ben Griffin Ben’s been a busy little games journalist over in our reviews section this month, specifically having his hands full with irate Russian bums, German Shepards, and syringes full of experimental…

letter of the month

I’d like your opinion on something – the ever-growing frequency of games which are released and simply don’t seem finished or are unable to cope with the demands placed on them. So, I picked up my pre-ordered copy of No Man’s Sky, and downloaded the ‘essential’ 1.03 patch. However, around two or three hours into the game, I was met with constant crashing and automatic game resets. A quick look on No Man’s Sky’s Twitter account highlighted that the studio were aware of these problems, but that the “number of players, and length of average play sessions” at this early stage was more than they predicted and the game/servers couldn’t cope. Pokémon Go, and the Assassin’s Creed games have also had similar quality issues in recent years. Why don’t developers simply anticipate,…

Trade-in troubles I think we’ve all come to accept that DLC Is standard for pretty much any game now. There’s one thing that bothers me about it, and it’s not the cost – it’s the delay in releasing it. I always keep a look out for game release dates and buy them day one. I don’t particularly race through them – my wife and kids see to that! I have just finished my third playthough of Uncharted 4 and gotten all achievements, and still there’s no word on upcoming DLC. The Division is the same – the expansions came months after the initial release, and by then I’d traded it in. I want to go back and sample these DLCs, but the price of games is too high, and the value once…

Madcap giant lizard fighting game Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee was a great local multiplayer game with a great title. Time for a reboot, I say. Robin Valentine, Production Editor Goldeneye… so long as they remove Oddjob. Or just make him normal size. 5’6 is not that short! Barry Jarvis, @MrBarryJarvis The Weakest Link, spent hours on that game in local multiplayer with mates, picking on each other for being stupid. Classic The Geektrovert, @RawFear27 Diddy Kong Racing. My childhood was lost to that! Alex Shute, Facebook Battlestations: Midway. Best game ever for epic battles. Barrybarfly, @barrybarfly Timesplitters. Not even up for debate. Jon Gates, Facebook…
