Maxim hosted the hottest party during Art Basel Miami Beach with its celebration of the November/December issue at the Plymouth Hotel in South Beach. Cover model Chase Carter hosted the annual soiree with DJ Mad Linx and DJ Irie amping up the crowd, and a special performance by rapper Yo Gotti to top the fun-filled evening. Maxim teamed up with speakeasy gallery Good Luck Dry Cleaners (GLDC) to transform the venue into a visual wonderland decked out with one-of-a-kind installations made on location, such as a 24k gold Pool Cabana, complete with GLDC magnum bottles by Edward Acosta, and hotel walls, bathrooms and doors brought to life with custom artwork by prolific artists JPO, sacsix, Lambros, Jeremy Penn and Phil Reese. Event partners included blu e-cigs, Skycraft Studios, Maestro Dobel…

cutting edge

It had all the earmarks of being a passing fad – surely after all the hipsters shaved their beards off the new breed of “cool” barbershops would also be consigned to the rubbish bin. But the design acumen of these bastions of elegant grooming, now to be found everywhere from the famed Hôtel de Crillon in Paris to Bangkok’s Black Amber Social Club, is only getting better as they pop up in all corners of the globe. In fact they are now defining a new kind of luxury for men, elevating a personal ritual that might have once been a chore to a sybaritic experience worth anticipating with excitement. With some dispensing single malt Scotch, other haircuts costing hundreds of dollars, and most offering various customized feel-good treatments as well, these…

blue bloods

On the open water, two things remain paramount: style and functionality. The Franck Muller Vanguard Yachting Tourbillon raises both of these traits to perfection. With a bold blue face and similarly hued strap, in addition to a fantastically-engineered tourbillon that’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is accurate, this timepiece is capable of grabbing one’s attention regardless of the opulent surroundings. Housed in a durable stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal caseback, the Vanguard Yachting Tourbillon is the perfect watch for a superyacht adventure, and ideally suited to an active lifestyle on the ocean where conditions may not always be perfect. While some Franck Muller timepieces can be found at lesser price points, this watch can be equated with the yacht on which it was meant to be worn: a…

the grand tour’s luckiest man

First as a host of the BBC’s Top Gear, which was the world’s most watched factual program reaching hundreds of millions of global fans, and now on the immensely popular The Grand Tour, Richard Hammond lives the life most men dream of; driving the world’s greatest cars, tackling some of Earth’s most beautiful and challenging roads and regions, and getting paid millions of dollars to do it. But there’s been an unfortunate dark side to this dream existence. Cars crash, and cars going fast crash even harder, a truism that has nearly ended the show, as well as Richard Hammond’s life, on more than one occasion. Amazon Prime Video’s The Grand Tour retains many of the automotive and comedic aspects of Top Gear, but gives Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May…

custom deluxe

“NO MATTER WHAT I DO, I CANNOT ESCAPE MY MECHANICAL SENSIBILITIES” In the 1950s, with time on their hands and adrenaline in their veins, London’s rebellious youth rolled up their sleeves and started modifying BSAs, Triumphs, Nortons, Vincents and other Britishbuilt motorbikes to go much, much faster. Channeling Marlon Brando in The Wild One while wearing UK-made Lewis Leathers, they convened at the Ace Cafe to swagger and swap stories and spare parts — hence the term “café racer” was born. Getting from the Cafe to the Hanger Lane roundabout and back before the jukebox stopped is said to have earned you membership in the infamous “ton-up club”, only possible with modified bikes that could easily do 100 mph, i.e. the “ton.” Some modern machines can almost get there in first gear,…

fantastic beast

There were plenty who scoffed at the idea of a Lamborghini SUV when the legendary Italian marque rst revealed the Urus project a few years ago. After all the original Rambo Lambo, aka the LM002 SUV that debuted in 1986, is more of an automotive oddity (albeit with a cult following) than anything else. With the Urus officially entering the model lineup for 2019, however, Lamborghini is looking forward to making the naysayers choke on their words. The taste may be a little bitter, especially once they’ve gotten behind the wheel and seen rsthand just how awe-inspiring the world’s fastest SUV is. With Lamborghini billing it as the world’s rst super sport utility vehicle as well — the SUV equivalent of a supercar — anything less than heart-stopping numbers would have…
