warm homespun greetings

As we prepare to greet the season of fresh beginnings, one of our favorite things to do is watch our gardens spring back to life. And just like those much welcome signs of spring, our fresh crop of projects is sure to put a skip in your step. If you’ve been stitching along with us on the three-part Blackberry Primitives wool sampler series, Castleton, you won’t want to miss the final installment in this issue. Searching for a project to perfect your pieced and appliqué skills? Our featured designers have cultivated inspiration aplenty, including Deanne Eisenman’s Back Porch Garden, Melissa Young’s Ode to Mom and Janet Nesbitt’s Americana. If you love all things small, try Karen’s Lamp’s floriferous wool table runner or Ann Hermes’ enchanting doll quilt inspired by her…

about the projects

We would like to thank Jennifer and Sheila at Marietta Blueprint of Marietta, Ohio, for assisting us in enlarging and testing patterns in our template insert. Many cancer patients struggle to stay warm, particularly after chemotherapy. It’s a discomfort that Deborah Rogers’ late sister-inlaw and avid quilter, Victoria Ann Morrison, often experienced. “Victoria often said, ‘People aren’t perfect. Why do quilts have to be?’,” recalls Deborah, who was inspired by that comment to overcome her fear of quilting and establish Victoria’s Quilts, which makes quilts for cancer patients with any type of cancer. Quilts donated to a cancer treatment facility are kept by the facility or given to a patient. They are identified with a Victoria’s Quilts label available through the organization’s website. The need for quilts quickly outgrew Deborah’s ability, so she enlisted the help of volunteers. For more than six years, about 25 volunteers met at JoAnn Fabrics store each month, handing out flyers and…
