During my recent visit to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in the Netherlands, what left an indelible impression was the Rem Koolhaas-designed wing. Entitled Stedelijk Base, it showcases art and design from 1880 to the present day, within an open space sectioned by slim steel screens. I marvelled at how influential works from the De Stijl movement were displayed (as pictured above), while in another corner, an array of Eames-designed chairs sat next to a Yves Klein painting in vivid blue. Inspired by the exhibition’s unconventional spatial design, we have shortlisted beautiful homes around the world that successfully combine design with art. Think of skiing in Asia and Japan’s Niseko region is easily top of mind. This pristine slice of alpine paradise is celebrated for its stunning scenery as well as rich culture that attract travellers from around the world. It’s no surprise that development in Niseko has increased in the last decade, and the latest statement has been made by Skye Niseko—a new high-end ski-in, ski-out resort that promises guests the most comfortable home on the slopes.
