Both taking and viewing photographs that make you happier and in a better position to meet life’s challenges can only be commended. Anything that can reduce or relieve stress and anxiety is welcome, and it is here that photography can play a major role. Our Technical Editor feels restless unless he has his dose of photography every week. Photography is his stress buster. Similarly, viewing delightful images and enjoying them can usefully divert your mind from other more taxing areas. So, remember that photography has a strong healing power and can help you to have a…

tamron announces 35-150 mm f/2.8-4 portrait zoom lens

Tamron has announced the launch of its 35-150 mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD compact zoom lens for full-frame D-SLR cameras. The zoom range incorporates the 85 mm focal length (often regarded as optimum for portrait shooting) and covers everything from full-body shots that include the surrounding area to sharp head-and-shoulders shots that stand out from a natural defocussed “bokeh” background. The compact lens is designed for fast handling and easy transport, measuring only 124.3 mm (4.9 in) long and perfectly balanced. On the technical side, three optimally placed low dispersion glass elements and three hybrid aspherical elements quash various optical aberrations. Tamron states that autofocus is exceptionally quiet with improved precision and speed due to the OSD (Optimised Silent Drive) DC motor. The lens also incorporates a Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit)…

canon introduces l-series lens

Canon has announced the RF 85 mm f/1.2 L USM standard prime lens, the fifth addition to its RF family of lenses. The lens is being marketed as a vital tool for portrait photographers who use Canon’s EOS R or EOS RP cameras. Canon states that the most unique feature of the RF 85 mm f/1.2 L USM lens is Canon’s proprietary optical technology — Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) Optics — that helps to greatly reduce chromatic aberrations that could occur with large aperture lenses. The BR optical element, first introduced in the EF 35 mm f/1.4L II USM, is inserted into the lens and refracts blue light between the concave and convex lenses. This enables the convergence of the entire wavelength of light to one point, resulting in higher image…
