a more competitive italian ensign

New Italian yachting norms this Christmas with loads of news also for the superyacht segment. Several measures dedicated to large shipyards and refits are on the way and full recognition of commercial cruising, as well as less bureaucracy for ships listed in the international register, the introduction of the Italian Passenger Yacht Code, some more light shed on the question of ‘leasing’ and much more. Last but not least three years of hard work invested by UCINA Confindustria Nautica pays off and the Italian ensign becomes more competitive. The latest bits of news concerning the norms governing the over/under 500 GT category seem to indicate that they will be simplified for the minor of the two categories and will be extended to classic ships up to 120 GT that are…

vitruvius yachts expedition range

Flexibility merges with functionality in this new range of concepts developed by Vitruvius Yachts, which is the design studio with renowned designer Philippe Briand at the helm. To name a couple of successful superyachts there are “Exuma” and “Galileo G”. The range is made up of six superyachts, which are similar to one another in terms of size. Among them there’s a 55 metre sailing yacht featuring the functionality typical of explorer models. The design studio wishes to demonstrate, with these new models, how the Mediterranean yacht, whose project design is focused on aesthetics and comfort jointly, can be equally efficient in expedition and explorer varieties without losing any of its leisurely yachting nature . The first unit represents a “Scientific Style Expedition”, in other words an Ice Class…

vitruvius yachts expedition range

is of a 55 metre sailing cruiser superyacht inspired by an American client wanting to explore Pacific Ocean areas. Briand’s studio focused on performance in designing this model but not only. Comfortable liveable spaces both inside and out, large almost oversized tenders, beach club or fitness centre. The thinking behind this was to elaborate a sailing yacht which offers much of the comfort and liveability found on motor yachts of similar size. Philippe Briand reportedly said: “There are many stereotypes when it comes to yachts which are absolutely not true. A sailing yacht is not only designed to be fast and to race. It can be equally suitable, just as much as a motor yacht when talking about exploring but with a little touch of extra elegance. For further information:…
