cn ceo departs abruptly, replaced by ruest

Canadian National’s board of directors is looking for a new, permanent CEO, following the abrupt and unexpected departure of CEO Luc Jobin. CN’s board members are entrusting the railroad to Chief Marketing Officer Jean-Jacques Ruest as interim chief executive. It was not clear if the congestion issues on CN’s Western Corridor contributed to Jobin’s exit after just 18 months as CEO. Jobin replaced Claude Mongeau as CEO in 2016. CN officials decline to comment beyond a March 5 news release. “The board believes the company needs a leader who will energize the team, realize CN’s corporate vision, and take the company forward with the speed and determination CN is known for,” Chairman Robert Pace says in a statement. CN’s traffic surged by 20 percent or more across Western Canada in the fall, gumming…

access to adventure!

The Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minn., is relatively small as museums go. But punch your ticket to enter the exhibits housed within the former Duluth Union Depot, and you’ll be awestruck by the shear volume of historic equipment representing a wide range of fallen flags from the Upper Midwest. Under the shelter of the climate-controlled trainshed, you’re free to explore electric, steam, and diesel locomotives displayed alongside rolling stock, passenger cars, and maintenance-of-way equipment. But that’s only a fraction of the collection on hand. To see the wide array of additional items located outside the shed and in the shops, you’re going to need a connection — an Internet connection and subscription to MR Video Plus, that is! That’s just how easy it is to explore the museum’s backlot…

The Florida Fun Train’s attempt at cultivating the Orlando-South Florida rail tourist market fizzled in less than a year following its 1997 debut, but the $9 million venture did finance the construction of unique single-level dome cars with wraparound glass built by now-defunct Colorado Railcar. You can still ride one of them from mid-June through September on a two-day journey through remote Alberta and British Columbia wilderness between Jasper, Alta., and Prince Rupert, B.C. But it’s complicated. That’s because VIA Rail Canada acquired just three of what it now calls “Panorama” domes from BC Rail when the province-owned operator dropped its Whistler Northwind luxury cruiser and all-passenger service from North Vancouver to Prince George, B.C., in 2002. Two of the cars — one per train — enhance summer viewing on the…
