editor’s letter

The age of influence, it’s said, is upon us. Whether on the front row or on the front benches – or simply leaning over our smartphones – we have more eyes on each other than at any time in history. As is also often said these days, it’s a lot. Of course, in the fashion industry and across social media, the concept of an “influencer” has evolved in a few short years into one that we all fully understand. Many influencers are now stars in their own right, while millions more around the globe, armed with a new handbag and a winning filter, continue to strive for clicks and likes. It’s an important sea change, but I do sometimes wonder how many are doing anything truly useful with this modern superpower. Emma…

urban escape

When contributing fashion director Kate Phelan returned to Mexico City with the Vogue team in tow – photographer Tim Walker and model Kesewa Aboah among them – she was delighted to rediscover the modern design scene at the heart of this capital. metallic taste

Diana Vreeland rarely got it wrong, but we’re taking issue with her axiom, “It’s not about the dress you wear, but it’s about the life you lead in the dress.” We’ll admit that real life can occasionally be more interesting than lamé. But Diana clearly hadn’t bargained for one of the new season’s sweetie-wrapper shiny, limelight-stealing numbers, each boasting more personality than a room full of rock stars. Imagine, for instance, telling Attico’s disco-pink column dress that you’re “just too tired” to venture out. And won’t those dazzling rhinestonefringed sandals feel miffed if you don’t take them for a test drive? This winter, the dress is the party. Heads up: they won’t take “maybe next time” for an answer.
