editor’s letter

Normally my Editor’s Letter is written right in the moment… just a few days before we go to print. And, more often than not, I’ll wander in on print day (okay, who am I kidding, on proof day after the magazine has officially gone to print) with a few extra things to add. I just can’t help it. It takes about 18 hours for the magazine to print, then a week for it to go on shelves nationally, then another two to eight weeks to go on shelves globally in our 36 extra markets. That seems like…

’twas the night before the aacta awards...

Hosted by filmmaker Laurence Malkin (Death at a Funeral, Kill Me Three Times) alongside Film Victoria CEO Jenni Tosi and The Collective’s Editor-in-Chief, Lisa Messenger, the annual Night Before The AACTA Awards bash celebrated a colossally successful year in Australian film. Boasting panoramic views of Bondi beach, Sydney’s Icebergs put on one heck of an event that saw these and other industry greats partying well into the wee…

Historically, not being one to truly commit and follow through on seemingly outlandish ideas borne from deep, three-wines-later convos with girlfriends, this time it felt different – like I hadn’t ever been surer of anything in my life… After reading the stories, experiences and tips of Lisa and The Collective contributors it felt as though someone had opened up my mind and completely changed the way I thought, everything was shook up, and I loved the feeling. My business hasn’t been an enormous overnight success… and at times I have thought maybe I wasn’t good enough to be doing this, but it…
