CHOE BRERETON, WRITER Choe Brereton believes there is nothing a good hearty meal or old-fashioned monster movie can’t fix. Currently residing in Colorado Springs, she has lived in Ireland and England, and before her recent US relocation, spent most of her days by the beach in Nelson Bay, Australia. While originally trained as a forensic scientist, she couldn’t escape the lure of placing words on a page and over the past decade, has written for a number of Australian and international magazines and websites (including the role of deputy editor for White), was an in-house writer for international child development organisation Compassion, and had her first children’s books published. This issue, Choe caught up with Austrian model and Instagram queen Tatjana Catic. LAST WEEK’S FUNNY? I was conducting a Skype interview with…

editor’s letter

Only for Skype to break up at the WORST moment... It’s not everyday you hang up on AMY POEHLER. I’m currently sitting on the 68th floor of the One World Trade Center in Manhattan. I’m here with 300 or more journalists from all over the world to hear about Acer’s new products and the company’s plans into the next season. I arrived at 1.28am, to be precise, and bundled myself into the hire car along with two other friends I’d picked up along the way – one a Bondi-based guy who was looking as lost as I was going through customs in LA and a wonderful LA-based animal activist we met at the baggage carousel. Next thing we know, it’s 2am and the three of us are chatting away like best friends…

collective letterbox

I discovered The Collective at Issue 15 and knew I’d found something special. Come Issue 18 I thought you had let me down. Where was the inspiration? You’d lost your touch, or so I thought. I soon realised it was I who had lost inspiration. I had stopped daring to dream and I couldn’t see the beauty in those pages. Now, at Issue 20 you have somehow broken through my stubborn creative block. Your pages are again music to my ears, a feast for the idea-hungry. Thank you. Thank you. Kat Warboys WINNER! It’s very rare to find a magazine that my whole family will actually all want to read. But The Collective has ticked all of our boxes! My 15-year-old daughter brought it home several months ago and was telling me all…

hot shots

TATT’S CLEVER Inkbox has developed a tattoo that looks and feels like the real deal, but only lasts two weeks. Their ink is certified organic – made from the pulp of Genipa americana, a fruit that grows in the jungles of Central America (fun fact: the indigenous tribes have used it as body ornamentation for thousands of years). With the option to customise your design, just think of the possibilities (and freak-out potential…). getinkbox.com NOMAD TRUCK Jessie Goldenberg’s been touring NYC since April 2013, flogging fashion from the back of her Nomad truck. She says that after working in a small boutique in Brooklyn, she realised the overheads and seasonal cash flow of a bricks-and-mortar store would be too much for her. So instead, she grabbed a truck and hit the road with her…

5 minutes with ...

Kerrie Brown was decorating the sets of Babe, The Chronicles of Narnia and Mission: Impossible II before her blinds got the better of her. “I had just finished a film called The Raven, in Serbia,” she says. “I was renovating my house and thought, ‘I can’t have a house full of white blinds, I’ll go mad!’ So I set about working out how to print on blinds and became so addicted to the printing process [that] I started printing cushions, and the business just took over.” YOUR CREATIONS HAVE THE KALEIDOSCOPIC QUALITY OF A MAGIC EYE PICTURE… I think my style is very eclectic, which is due to working in film for over 25 years. I have a camera’s eye to design rather than a textile designer’s eye. The camera loves layer…
