JESSICA STONES, EVENTS/PR, MOROCCO FOR HER HONEYMOON LOVED: “The Moroccan Riads we stayed in! They were so exotic and colourful, we loved trying all the delicious food as well and we loved driving past trees full of goats… just hanging out up there.” HATED: “Getting lost. Marrakech is a pretty hard city to navigate and few maps include all the little streets.” WORST TRAVEL ADVICE YOU WERE GIVEN: “Get a GPS; they are useless in Morocco.” MELANIE DIMMITT, WRITER, PARIS FOR PLEASURE “Getting out of the bubble is so important. Scrap that, CRUCIAL for creativity. What I find most inspiring about Europe is the slower pace of daily rituals – the locals truly savour every sip of coffee and crumb of croissant. There’s a pride, often misconstrued as snobbery, which also gets me every time.…

editor’s letter

I originally wrote this month’s Editor’s Letter from the 42nd floor of the One World Trade Center in New York City. I was at the offices of Condé Nast having just had the most delightful and life-altering meeting with its CEO, Chuck Townsend. A day earlier, I met with the great Anna Wintour and a number of others from the wonderful exec team at Vogue. They were just two of a string of incredible meetings I had in the city during that trip as The Collective took a few more gigantic steps in its journey. But, before I get into all of that, I want to talk about our cover, because at the very last moment (two days before our print deadline) I asked my team to pull the household name…

WINNER! Thank you for restoring my belief that everything happens for a reason. I discovered your publication while in Paris, celebrating my 55th birthday – [an] Issue had been left in the apartment we rented. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. It was just the motivation that I needed. I recently started an online business that promotes and supports the economic independence of women, a cause I have come to realise is my passion. In the past I have always made excuses not to pursue this dream and now is the time. Freedom 55! The Collective is exactly what I need to encourage me to persevere through the ups and downs, it is part of the process – I am not alone. Cathie Stonier HAS THE COLLECTIVE INSPIRED YOU…

SWEET SEATS Fit for Mr Wonka himself, these cool stools have us salivating over our screens. German product designer Kirstin Overbeck created the aptly named Candy Collection in ode to the “enthusiasms of childhood, especially the irresistible savour of sugar”. Just goes to show, inspiration hits in the most curious of places – even at the bottom of a pick ‘n’ mix. kirstinoverbeck.de COFFEE MEETS BAGEL Tired of Tinder? There’s a new dating app in town. Co-founded by three sisters who were struggling to find a decent dude, Coffee Meets Bagel has successfully got the US and Hong Kong feeling the love. Having recently launched in Australia, the app presents users with only one match per day, championing quality over quantity. Certainly a way to streamline your swipe time. coffeemeetsbagel.com FROM BANKER TO BREWER Everyone loves…

HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE CREATIVE AND BUSINESS SIDES OF BEING AN ARTIST? My biggest and most defining lesson is that you need to put the same amount of hustle into the business side as you do into the artworks themselves. I probably spend just over 50 per cent of my time on the business development and general administration. This includes the social media side. I realised that you can’t beat it so you have to join it, and researched all I could about how to best use social media. For my business, it’s Instagram that really has made the difference. ANY TIPS FOR BRANDING YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST? I see a changing industry in art and the way people can access it. Social media has really opened up the playing field for…
