the icebreaker

FAVE QUOTE: Something my oldest brother, Luke, said to me a few years ago. It might have been when we were laying floors : “At the end of the day, it’s the end of the day”. So take what you can from that. HOW DO YOU RATE KATE WINSLET’S AUSTRALIAN ACCENT IN THE DRESSMAKER? We’d be hanging out on set and chatting and I’d often forget that she wasn’t Australian. I’d be like, “Where did you grow up again? You grew up in Australia, yeah?” She did a phenomenal job. ONE THING THAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL THAT ISN’T? That’s a really good question. You’ve put me on the spot with that; there are so many things. Can I come back to that one? FAVE BACKSTAGE FRIENDS? Woody Harrelson is one of my best friends…

editor’s letter issue 27

I am fairly sure I’ve covered more ground across Australia in the last month than I have in my entire life! I’ve been on 17 flights, to everywhere from Katherine in the Northern Territory and Moama in regional New South Wales to the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland and about 10 other destinations. It’s safe to say I am ready for my couch. It was a BEAUTIFUL REMINDER of just how vast the LANDSCAPE is, but also how STRONG, independent, INNOVATIVE, passionate and determined AUSTRALIANS are. But I feel incredibly fortunate to be asked to speak all over the place these days and for those of you who have read my book Daring & Disruptive, you will know it’s a far cry from someone who out of fear didn’t speak publicly for…

Thank you to our wonderful readers and Lennons Restaurant & Bar who served up scrumptious canapés to top off the occasion. COLLECTIVE x KAILIS It doesn’t get much better than midday cocktails, a shining city skyline and brilliant minds coming together. Hosted with luxury jewellery brand Kailis, The Collective had the pleasure of bringing together some of the nation’s most successful women for an afternoon of inspiration, connection…

WINNER! I don’t even know how to put this into words... I only picked up my first copy of The Collective last month, and you’ve already changed the lives of three women and their families. As I was reading, my excitement was explosive. I was messaging two girlfriends snippets from the mag well into the wee hours. I couldn’t stop. They are now well on the way to following their dreams. I recently decided to step down from a very high position to follow my dream in fashion styling. Not an easy decision in your forties and [with] a young family. Doubts plague me every day, but I just flick though your mag to get back on track. You inspire and empower [me] in a way no one has before. A…

COLLAB WATCH How do you get a supermodel on the subway? Reel ’em in with one heck of a collaboration. Balmain is the latest label to buddy with H&M for its designer collaborations (following in the fashionable footsteps of Alexander Wang and Versace) with a collection including womenswear, menswear and accessories launching in selected H&M stores this month. “Kendall [Jenner], Gigi [Hadid] and Jourdan [Dunn] are my friends, and they are the perfect choice to star in the campaign,” says Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing. These luxe pieces (at high-street prices) are sure to go down a treat. hm.com WOOF PACK Previously a machinist at Black Milk Clothing, the maven behind Mister Woof applied her skills to a canine clientele for this adorable venture, hand-crafting a host of snuggly fodder for our furry…
