TARA PEARCE Photographer Tara Pearce is an Australian photographer and creative director, whose work has appeared in national and international publications, from Broadsheet and Frankie, to Vogue and Real Living. Having begun her working life in her family’s import business, she has since gathered a wealth of experience working for large organisations before pouring her skills into full-time photography and art direction. Tara also lends her eyes to creating uplifting posters with all the profits from her initiative Say Peace! going to aid locals in Aleppo, Syria. HOW CAN ARTISTS MAKE A LIVING FROM THEIR WORK? I think there’s wisdom in the adage ‘choose a job that you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’. To turn your passion into a financially viable career does take hard work, time…

from the editor

I have a confession to make: I don’t have a mentor. I know, I know. It’s on my to-do list, but… well, there’s just always something more pressing to do (like, learn how to drive a car. Oops!). In the meantime, there are great women and men whose careers – and lives – I admire from both up-close and afar. But sometimes it’s a little tricky figuring out exactly how they got to be so awesome. So this month we pulled out all the stops to bring you the best of those behind-thescenes conversations (sans awkward coffee date). The ultimate girlboss, Sophia Amoruso, opens up on her recent journey to bankruptcy and back, the founder of a prison book club opens up about what happens on the other side of fear,…

In an Instagram photo, a reader had taken a shot of their bookshelf, and there was my book alongside a copy of Sophia Amoruso’s #Girlboss and Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. It was amazing to see my first book in an entrepreneurial series I had dreamed of writing rubbing words with those of such incredible, kick-arse women. So, you can imagine how thrilled I am, three years on, to have the ultimate Girlboss, Sophia Amoruso, on the cover of Collective Hub. We’d been on each other’s radar for a while and first met for dinner at Bondi Beach, Sydney, last year. And what I can tell you is…

HAS COLLECTIVE HUB INSPIRED YOU TO START A BUSINESS? WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! SPOTLIGHT OUR PAGES INSPIRED SARAH TO START HER OWN CANDLE COMPANY, INDIE AND BEAU As a mama of six, the majority of my time and energy goes into my kids and their needs, and trying to keep our family of eight running smoothly and happily, on top of having my soy wax candle business. Being a one-woman candle company, I find Collective Hub provides me with that extra encouragement and reassurance I sometimes need to keep pushing myself out of my cosy little comfort zone. I have long had a desire to incorporate my love of photography into my brand, but kept it on the shelf as a “one day” project. I had a “moment” when I came…
