welcome

This issue we’re showing our love and appreciation for the legend that is the Cosworth YB engine. For over 35 years this humble, Pinto-based turbocharged 2.0-litre has been the backbone of the fast Ford scene. It has powered everything from touring cars to world rally machines, from dragsters to rallycross monsters. It’s been at the heart of some of the most inspirational and influential projects we’ve ever seen, not to mention been the powerplant behind a large number of the cars ever to appear in Fast Ford. In fact, we’ve got two more in this very issue, in the shape of Barry Stephenson’s 4x4 Mk3 Escort and Des Morris’s crazy old school 538bhp Mk2 Escort. And, at 35 years old, it’s still going strong; every year we see more ingenuous ways…

The RS sits on such a versatile platform, and we’ve seen everything from full-on show cars with air-ride and huge audio installs to focused and stripped-out track weapons – plus, of course, the huge-power examples, with bhp numbers approaching (and even exceeding) the fabled four-figure mark. It’s all started to get a bit crazy in the Mk2 RS scene – and that’s a great thing, of course; we love a bit of crazy. But we thought it was time to exercise a little restraint, view the genre with a cleansed perspective, and acknowledge the everyday tuner car…

PRO ALLOY MK8 FIESTA ST INDUCTION KIT From £214.80 Fabrication wizard Pro Alloy has been rather clever with the design of its latest induction kit for the Mk8 Fiesta ST; not only does it provide the proven performance gains and excellent quality we’ve come to expect from Pro Alloy, it’s also available in three stages to help keep things affordable in these uncertain times. To start with, the Stage 1 upgrade is the main airbox/ heat-shield element with an ITG Maxogen filter. On its own this costs £214.80, and is the ideal starting point for anyone looking to tune their ST. But the clever Pro Alloy design then allows you to upgrade that to a Stage 2 kit by adding a 70mm mandrel-bent high-flow alloy side link pipe, removing the restrictive OE plastic…
