ALONG with the hatchback (left) and the Touring Sports estate, Toyota is offering the new Corolla as a saloon. It’ll sell in tiny numbers, the firm admits, but bosses hope it’ll appeal to some owners of the Avensis, which was axed last year.
The four-door sits on the longer of the two Corolla wheelbases, so it should offer the same slightly larger rear cabin as the Touring Sports estate. It’s exactly the same price as the hatchback, and in the UK at least, it’s available only as a 1.8-litre hybrid. Unlike the other two body styles, incidentally, it’s not built in Britain; the saloons are made in Turkey.
It’s a neatly styled thing, with different bumpers, headlamps and tail-lights, and oddly, an extra shade in the colour palette…
