It’s a title that few women in the UK will be proud of – not to mention alarmed at – British women are the biggest binge drinkers in the world. In a study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCED) they were found to have the highest consumption of alcohol of 33 countries. Nearly half of adult females polled in the study, released last November, reported drinking in the past month, with 13 per cent revealing that they regularly binge drank – consuming a minimum of six units of alcohol at a time.
