1 A good viz mig spot around dawn for overhead migrants; typically, Swallow, House Martin, Meadow Pipit, Sky Lark, Pied and Grey Wagtails, Blackbird, Song and Mistle Thrushes, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Siskin, Linnet, redpoll and Reed Bunting. Later in the season expect flocks of Woodpigeon, Starling, corvids, gulls, Redwing and Fieldfare. Open ground is good for Ring Ouzel, Wheatear and maybe a late Whinchat. Scan mid-morning for raptors such as Red Kite, Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk, plus Raven.
2 Woodland harbours the usual range of resident tits, including the declining Marsh Tit, plus Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Mistle Thrush, Bullfinch, Jay, Great Spotted and Green Woodpeckers, plus Tawny Owl at dusk.
