One of the highlights of Bill’s time on Corrie so far has been Stu’s friendship with Street veteran Ken. TUESDAY 9 August TOM DALEY: ILLEGAL TO BE ME BBC1 9PM As thousands of athletes prepare for this year’s Commonwealth Games, Tom Daley uses this film to shine a light on how some competitors live in fear of brutality in the very countries they represent. In more than half of the Commonwealth’s 56 member states, it is illegal to be gay, and punishments can include whipping, life imprisonment and death. We follow the champion diver on his journey to countries such as Pakistan – where homosexuality carries a maximum penalty of death by stoning – and Jamaica, talking to top sportspeople who are facing persecution: many speaking anonymously. And drawing on his own experiences, Tom asks what the Commonwealth Games Federation can do to help persecuted athletes feel safe.…
