In October 2019, I cancelled my landline telephone contract with Telkom, paid the outstanding amount for the previous month and received confirmation from Telkom via SMS, complete with a reference.
Several months thereafter, I began to receive SMSes and later, telephone calls from a ream of collection agencies demanding payment of an ever-increasing outstanding amount.
Finally, I contacted Telkom and was given a dispute reference number and subsequently, an SMS confirming that the matter had been resolved.
All well and good, I thought, but surprise, surprise; the demands abated for a while and then began again, this time with greater frequency – one day, as many as 10 calls from the same
collection agency.
